Today’s photo of the day challenge of the day for #humpday asked fans if they knew which mountain this was….

If you guessed Mount Everest then you’re correct!

Mount Everest is the Earth’s highest mountain, with a peak of 29,029ft about sea level. If we’re measuring from the center of the Earth, which, why not, then it’s the 5th tallest mountain. It’s located in the Mahalangur section of the Himalayas with an international border between China and Nepal running across the precise summit point.

It was originally documented as Peak XV in 1856, but just under ten years later it was given the official name by the Royal Geographical Society. Because Tibet and Nepal were closed to foreigners at the time, the British explorers had no idea that Tibetans had always called Everest, “Chomolungma.”

For today’s photo of the day challenge, we were just too excited for summer to come, so we had to ask…”What flavor of ice cream is this?

image

If you said, Pralines n’ Cream…You were right!

But did you actually know what praline means? Praline can refer to confections made from nuts and sugar syrup, whether in whole pieces or a ground powder, or to any chocolate cookie containing the ground powder or nuts.

What flavors are your go-to during the summer?

Since it’s Throwback Thursday, we decided to take it WAY back today. Were you able to figure out who this US president was?

James Garfield!

Garfield was the 20th president of the United States, with the second shortest term at only 200 days, March 4, 1881 - September 19, 1881. He was the second of four presidents to ever be assassinated.

Garfield served the Union during the Civil War, and entered politics shortly after as a Republican. During his political career Garfield advocated a bi-metal monetary system, agricultural technology, an educated electorate, and civil rights for African Americans.

The question of the day on Instagram was for TechTuesday, “When was the first Blackberry (RIM at the time) model released?”

It was fourteen years ago in 1996! The first model was a simple two-way pager with a thumb keypad and thumbwheel for scrolling the monochrome text display. Within a year, the devices were in use by fewer than 400k people and expected two-way wireless messaging services to attract 51 million users by 2002.

They provided email and WAP capabilities with limited HTML access provided by third party software.

Needless to say, Blackberries have come a long way, and remain competitive in the smartphone market.

Today’s Throwback Thursday photo challenge of the day was sort of hard, but that’s why it’s called…a challenge!

We asked, “When was this picture taken?” And the hint we gave was that it was related to your laptop.

image

The answer is 1944. This is a picture of Colossus, the first electric digital  computer that was all programmable. The Colossus computers were first used by British intelligence during WWII to decode encrypted telegraphic messages between the German High Command and their scattered European occupancy. Something tells us, this didn’t come with a mouse and keyboard…

The question today was, “Can you guess whose famous comedian’s mother this is?”

If you said, Ben Stiller, then you’d be correct!

Ann Meara was funny long before Ben was born. Her and Ben’s father Jerry Stiller (George Costanza’s father on Seinfeld!) were part of the original improv group, The Compass Players, which later went on to become The Second City. In fact, their comedy duo, Stiller and Meara often appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. Since then, Meara has gone on to play many memorable roles on television. Oh, and she raised Zoolander!
