We recently released our take on the hits – and misses – at the box office this summer, including the actors Ask users can’t get enough of and the sequels you wish had never been made. While we were mining through all those questions, it made us a little nostalgic for the summer blockbusters of our past. Ah, memories of beating the heat to enjoy a slushy and popcorn in front of a chilly theater big screen. We asked you what your favorite past summer movies were across a number of categories, check out the results:

·         Action: Americans voted superhero flick The Avengers as their favorite summer action movie (beating out The Dark Knight, Spider-Man and Die Hard).

·         Comedy: American Pie was a big time favorite, taking the top spot for summer comedy blockbuster. It beat out second place Animal House, followed by Coming to America and Clueless.

·         Romance: A majority of Americans love to see Patrick Swayze say the famous line, “Nobody puts Baby in the corner.” Dirty Dancing was voted best past summer romance blockbuster, followed by tearjerker The Notebook and musical sensation, Grease.

Speaking of the big screen, we also got feedback on where celebs are most likely to catch a flick themselves. Leave a comment below if you’ve experienced a celeb sighting at the movies!
