Trick or Treat?
By // October 31st, 2011“Trick or treat! Smell my feet. Give me something good to eat.”
How did trick-or-treating start, anyhow?
The custom of Trick-or-treating has origins in the medieval practice of ‘souling’, when the poor would go door to door on November 1st, called Hallowmas or All Hallows Eve, to ask for food and prayers for the dead on the following day, All Souls Day.
The more recent custom of giving candy or treats originated in the idea that homeowners would do this to prevent mischief and pranks that were common on this night, hence the traditional saying “trick or treat”.
